The best view - from Dad's shoulders!

Father’s Day is right around the corner.  So, Dads, let’s take a moment to see how you can be good to yourself by making sure that you’re in top-notch shape health-wise. Adopting this short, easy-to-do list of habits as a guiding principle can be key to a healthier and happier life, and add more years to enjoy your children, grandchildren as well as accomplish your bucket list.

Here’s what you need to know:

Get movin‘:  If you’re not already exercising, now is the time to go for it with summer approaching and light-filled days. It doesn’t have to be for a long time – say, ½ hour each day on a swift-paced walk, exercise bike, or a swim.  The good news is that exercise—especially the short, intense bursts in circuit or interval training—helps maintain and develop muscles, strength and stamina, and increase metabolism, according to a recent study in the British Journal of Sports Medicine.  It will improve your attitude, too.

Eat right: Ding! Ding!  That’s where Green Foods comes in.

Submitted by a fan, Regan.

You don’t need trendy diets or expensive exercise programs to tell you that when you eat healthy meals, and nourish your body with superfoods like premium barley grass juice powder in our Green Magma or Magma Plus, you feel better, inside and out. Make an effort to blend a smoothie in the morning with True Vitality which is our plant based protein powder and so much easier to digest than animal protein (and it tastes great!).  Add some Chia seeds to get an additional boost in energy and Omega-3 oils (find us on Facebook for great smoothie recipes!).  Pick up a piece of fruit in the afternoon and do your best to let go of sneaking in those caffeinated drinks and overly processed snacks.

On a more serious note, in 2010, nearly 218,000 men in the United States were diagnosed with prostate cancer, a largely curable challenge when caught in its early stages, according to the American Cancer Society. So why not eat well to prevent potential cancer cells from becoming a bigger problem?

Go in for a checkup: Dr. Mehmet Oz, a professor of cardiac surgery at Columbia University, shared on The Oprah Winfrey Show that men who consider themselves “macho” are 50 percent less likely to seek preventative health care. Regular checkups can help you catch a whole array of physical ailments that may not present symptoms until much later. At the very least, here’s what you need to get checked: blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar, prostate, thyroid, and colon.

Let go: Fathers are much less likely than mothers to take care of their emotional selves, yet men face just as much family, finance, and work stress as women do.  It’s important to make an effort to do things that help you unwind and let go of the day’s pressures: connect with friends, go out on a date with your partner, take a yoga class, learn meditation as a relaxation tool, or read a good book and don’t forget to b-r-e-a-t-h-e.

And remember that any time you stumble, it’s just another opportunity to pick yourself back up.  Be easy on yourself!

We are offering $5 off our products in our online store through June 22nd in honor of Father’s Day and men’s wellness.  Just enter: LOVEMYDAD at the check-out and “Like” us on Facebook to get notices on giveaways, contests and more!

Take care and enjoy your day, Dads!
